What Counselors & Leaders Say

I think it's so important as students are trying to figure out what their future home is going to look like, to get the insights from a current student who's lived that experience—not just from the perspective of a tour guide, but having those intimate one-on-one conversations about what a major really looks like, what the dining hall is like, what the vibe of the school is.
            - Derek DuBose, President of NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling) and Director of College Counseling at Miami Country Day School

The longer I'm in my career, the more of an expert I become, but the farther I am from my students and their experiences. I know there's a lot of value in them hearing from a near peer.

What Students Say

Max helped me decide on if applying to UF made sense based on what I was looking for based on my interests
 - Mason Efron, High School Junior
I feel more prepared and less anxious about taking difficult classes like Organic Chemistry. Sam really gave me a lot of advice for how to get through the pre-med track and I feel better about my choice for my major!

 - Nil Demirag, High School Senior

My two calls were so good. I learned so much about each school's engineering program and feel way more confident about my decision for where I want to commit to
- Sydney Butler, High School Senior

What Parents Say

The conversations are student driven, so the new student is able to receive specific answers to questions they raise and hear directly from a mentor student who has been there done that. My daughter met with Gaby who answered questions about URSP, Honors requirements, and achieving a work-life balance during the first semester adjustment period. They also touched on study abroad and preparing for sorority recruitment. Gaby zoomed in from her study abroad program in London, which my daughter thought was cool to hear about. My daughter is attending Preview next week, so she had a couple of questions about how to best meet some program requirements. Gaby also reassured my daughter that despite what Rushtok promotes about the competitive nature of SEC sorority rush, recruitment shouldn’t be that stressful and not to overthink it. That’s not to say it isn’t a draining process, especially with long days in the Florida heat and humidity, but TikTok influencers tend to overemphasize certain prep or aspects of rush that aren’t as relevant at UF.

My son met with Eli who answered questions about Greek Life and the business school. After the call, Eli sent an email with some names of students my son could reach out to for more information about fraternities and business-oriented clubs. There are other mentors from schools outside of the business school as well! It's a great service for new students looking to get some mentorship either prior to arriving on campus, or shortly thereafter!
